Floor Waste The grated drain in bathroom, laundry and balcony floors that catches overflow and wash-down water, connected to the drainage system through a trap. P-Trap The P-shaped bend under sinks, showers and floor wastes that holds a permanent plug of water, blocking sewer gases from entering the room. S-Trap A trap shaped like an S whose outlet drops vertically through the floor — common in older Australian bathrooms, and more prone to siphoning than a P-trap.
