DrainSpy Brisbane was called to a residential property in Redcliffe after the homeowner experienced slow draining fixtures and recurring sewer blockages. The drainage system had gradually deteriorated over many years until wastewater could no longer flow freely through the sewer line.
Our initial inspection indicated a significant obstruction within the main drain. After carrying out a CCTV drain camera inspection, we identified the cause of the blockage as approximately 16 years of accumulated fat, grease and food residue that had hardened inside the pipe walls.
Over time, fats, oils and grease (commonly referred to as FOG) cool and solidify inside sewer pipes. Layer after layer builds up until the internal diameter of the pipe becomes severely restricted, eventually causing complete blockages.
The customer reported:
✔ Slow draining sinks.
✔ Gurgling drains.
✔ Intermittent sewer blockages.
✔ Wastewater backing up.
✔ Strong drain odours.
✔ Repeated drainage issues becoming worse over time.
Without professional intervention, the blockage would have eventually resulted in a complete sewer overflow.
DrainSpy Brisbane carried out a comprehensive drain investigation using professional CCTV drain inspection equipment before commencing cleaning works.
Once the blockage was confirmed, our high-pressure water jetting system was used to progressively cut through and remove the hardened fat deposits lining the inside of the sewer pipe.
Unlike electric drain snakes that simply punch a small hole through the blockage, high-pressure water jetting completely cleans the internal walls of the pipe, restoring maximum flow and helping prevent future blockages.
Following cleaning, the drain was re-inspected using CCTV equipment to confirm the blockage had been completely removed and the pipeline restored to full operation.
Our work included:
✔ CCTV drain inspection.
✔ Identification of heavy fat build-up.
✔ High-pressure water jet cleaning.
✔ Removal of approximately 16 years of accumulated grease.
✔ Full internal pipe cleaning.
✔ CCTV confirmation inspection.
✔ Flow testing.
✔ Customer advice on preventing future blockages.
✔ High-pressure water jetting unit.
✔ Professional CCTV drain camera.
✔ Electronic pipe locator.
✔ Commercial drain cleaning nozzles.
✔ Drain inspection monitor.
✔ Safety equipment.
The sewer line was successfully restored to full working order without excavation.
Years of hardened grease and fat deposits were completely removed from the pipeline, allowing wastewater to flow freely once again.
Following the final CCTV inspection, the drain was confirmed to be free from obstructions and operating as intended.
The customer now has a fully functioning drainage system and was provided with recommendations to reduce future grease build-up.
Benefits included:
✔ Complete blockage removed.
✔ Approximately 16 years of grease build-up eliminated.
✔ Full sewer flow restored.
✔ No excavation required.
✔ CCTV confirmation of successful cleaning.
✔ Reduced risk of future blockages.
✔ Professional drain maintenance advice provided.
